Speakers
She qualified from Leeds University in 1992 and after basic training spent 4 years working in obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and neonatal medicine then completing her GP training in 1999 and has since worked as a salaried GP, GP partner and senior partner of a large inner city GP practice. During this period, she also worked in family planning clinics, genito-urinary medicine clinics, and as a forensic medical examiner for Leicestershire police (sexual assault). She has also been a GPwSi (GP with Special Interest) in sexual health and in early pregnancy assessment and management within the community setting.
She currently works in the NHS sector as a speciality doctor in sexual and genitourinary medicine and contraception (integrated sexual health), also working as a specialist within general practice developing and delivering a women’s health hub clinic providing all aspects of women’s health needs including community gynaecology and menopause management.
She has the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Diploma of Sexual and Reproductive Health and works as a faculty registered trainer for DFSRH, and has a post graduate certificate in gynaecological ultrasound, using ultrasound in the ‘office’ environment for over 15 years.
A member of the NICE experts panel, Dr Wake is regularly asked to be involved in reviews of guidelines related to sexual and reproductive health and regularly gives talks to and teaches healthcare professionals on many aspects of women’s health. She views women’s health from a holistic point of view, one size does not fit all, and treats the woman not the problem.
